Desert Rain

from Rainmaker by Lorenzo Miniero

/

about

The last song I composed, and one of my favourites in the album. The main inspiration was probably Queensryche (the verse in particular reminds me of their "Desert Dance"), and the song ended up becoming a weird mix of 80's and modern metal, with middle eastern influences. The staccato-ish riff in particular was something new to me, so it was fun (and hard!) to try and get that right.

For vocals, my dear friend Paolo Navarretta from The Black Crown guest starred with me, and I think he did a great job! You can hear their work on Bandcamp as well: theblackcrown.bandcamp.com

lyrics

The sky is clear, the sun hits hard
And almost blinds me
The sand I walk on goes
As far as I can see
I lost my way, I lost my mind
No one around me
I'm finally losing strenght
And with it my will to live

Now everything's on fire
These flames are burning me
Their tongues are red and brighter
And now I cannot breathe

Step after step, I carry on
My pain is crippling
No water anywhere
As far as I can see
I want to cry, my tears are dry
Just like an old tree
Not even a mirage
To lure some force out of me

Now everything's on fire
These flames are burning me
Their tongues are red and brighter
And now I cannot breathe

All this sand it burns like fire
Fans the flames of my desire
How I long for desert rain
Endless dunes, a sea of death
Out of hope and out of breath
How I long for desert rain

I'm getting older but, unlike whisky, I'm not getting any better. So, besides developing open source software for a living, I've decided to go back to an old passion of mine: writing and recording music.
